Course aim

To provide students with an understanding of Aboriginal Nation building and governance as a significant factor for Aboriginal communities to achieve their economic and community development aspirations. Students will engage with nation building theorists and practitioners to explore Indigenous nation building as a governance and community planning tool for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Course content

This course will introduce students to the key elements of nation building. Students will critically analyse, consolidate and synthesise information relating to Aboriginal nation building, identify the need for nation building and demonstrate specialised knowledge and understanding of the importance of nation building and be able to apply this knowledge in their professional practice. This course privileges voices of Indigenous peoples nationally and internationally as it considers the research foundation of the Indigenous nation building approach and its challenges.
