Course aim

To develop student's understanding of the practices and processes involved in preparing before-camera materials for stop motion animation.

Course content

Students will build knowledge of narrative through writing, design and production of character sculpture, prop and scene development in relation to stop motion animation and other design fields. Students will develop sculptural objects which contribute to narrative using a range of processes including character armature design, maquette and prop sculpture and miniature set construction. Areas of design and creative practice that will be covered specific to stop motion animation include, story, character, object and scene design, the dynamics of movement, puppet performance, the use of lighting and photography.
