Course aim

To develop knowledge of the concepts associated with assessment and treatment of hearing and its disorders across the lifespan.

Course content

Disorders of hearing as a function of the time of onset (prenatal, perinatal, postnatal). The measurement of hearing (pure-tone audiometry, air conduction, bone conduction). Speech audiometry, measurements made with speech audiometers and nonbehavioral measures. Types of hearing loss and implications. Introduction to audiologic rehabilitation including amplification devices and other aids including cochlear implants. Therapy approaches for persons with hearing impairment.
