To develop students' knowledge, skills and attitudes to assist older people to achieve optimal health and well-being.
Healthy ageing, ageing theories and the ageing process; ageism; elder abuse; legislation, policies and standards including Aged Care Quality Standards; National Safety and Quality Standards, advanced care directives; NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice; codes of conduct and ethics; common health issues in older people; healthy ageing for Aboriginal people; mental health; Grief and loss, bereavement, palliative and end of life care; health assessment; risk assessment; communication and documentation including care planning; consumer directed care, services available to support older people; safe administration of medicines; introduction to polypharmacy; person centred nursing care; activities of daily living; habilitation/rehabilitation.
