Course aim

To further develop students’ knowledge and skills in assessment, clinical reasoning and pharmacotherapeutics to facilitate the provision of safe, comprehensive person centred nursing care.

Course content

Conducting a comprehensive evidence based health assessment; diagnostic tests; clinical/diagnostic reasoning; reflection and critical thinking; clinical decision-making and problem-solving for clients with common health conditions; recognition of the deteriorating client; applied pharmacology including drug selection, detection and avoidance of drug-drug or drug-disease interactions and assessing therapeutic response; monitoring to prevent or detect adverse drug reactions; complementary and alternative therapies; therapeutic response; adverse drug reactions; medication errors; incident reporting; inter-professional practice; documentation; polypharmacy; drug interactions; quality use of medicines; national safety and quality health services standards; health informatics and telehealth.
