Preservice teachers will be introduced to key constructs associated with how children learn mathematics and science as the basis for planning and assessing disciplinary based learning experiences.
Preservice teachers will examine primary school children’s construction of mathematical and scientific understanding, processes and attitudes. They will explore how to implement the inquiry approach to science and mathematics teaching based on the Australian Curriculum (Mathematics/Science). Preservice teachers will examine assessment strategies with an emphasis on prior knowledge, formative assessment and timely and constructive feedback. Preservice teachers will plan learning experiences for individuals and small groups and evaluate a variety of structured and informal materials, print and digital resources suitable for a diversity of children.
