Course aim

For preservice teachers to expand their conceptual understanding of mathematics and responsive pedagogies in early childhood education and enhance their proficiency in assessing and planning for children’s ongoing mathematical development.

Course content

Preservice teachers will examine current research and contemporary perspectives in mathematics education and how they inform their practice. Preservice teachers will strengthen their pedagogical content knowledge including interpretation and use of learner data for planning learning experiences to cater for diverse learners; applying the Australian Curriculum Mathematics proficiencies, mathematical content strands and the Early Years Learning Framework outcomes in further design of learning experiences.
