Course aim

For early childhood students to further develop their conceptual understanding of mathematics and responsive pedagogy in early childhood education through developing proficiency in assessing and planning for children’s ongoing mathematical development utilising key resources.

Course content

Students will investigate concepts and mathematical language with a particular focus on children’s mathematical thinking from preschool to the early years of primary school. Students will investigate planning for learning with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum, utilising teaching practices based on play and social constructivist perspectives.
