Course aim

For early childhood preservice teachers to further develop their conceptual understanding of mathematics and responsive pedagogy in early childhood education through developing proficiency in assessing and planning for children’s ongoing mathematical development utilising key resources.

Course content

Preservice teachers will examine current research and contemporary perspectives in mathematics education and how they inform their practice. Preservice teachers will strengthen their pedagogical content knowledge including interpretation and use of learner data for planning learning experiences that cater for diverse learners; applying the Australian Curriculum Mathematics proficiencies, mathematical content strands and the Early Years Learning Framework outcomes in further design of learning experiences.
