Truth, Lies and Being Human

Course aim

To introduce students to key questions raised by the humanities and social sciences. Students will develop their understanding of themes that underpin challenges in the contemporary world, including the nature of truth, self, language, trust, risk and ethics.

Course content

This course invites students to consider some of the most pressing questions raised by the humanities and social sciences. In doing so, the course explores themes that are fundamental to understanding the contemporary world, including the nature of truth, self, language, trust, risk and ethics. Drawing on a wide range of cultural, virtual, national and international contexts, students are introduced to the work of influential thinkers and scholars, and are encouraged to explore its implications and relevance to current issues, with an emphasis on opportunities for students to develop and pursue their own interests and aspirations.
