Course aim

To develop introductory knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and languages, and impacts of colonisation in contemporary Australia, as the basis for developing reflective and culturally responsive health professionals.

Course content

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and languages; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander key concepts of health and wellbeing; culture, family and connection to country and relevance to health and health practice; white privilege, racism, social determinants of health; health equality and health equity; human rights instruments; health system culture in Australia; strengths-based knowledge and communication; cultural humility.
