Course aim

To provide students with an understanding of legal and ethical issues in urban and regional planning professional practice.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge of planning law and relevant regulations relating to urban development, land division and land titles, aboriginal land rights in Australia, and the Australian legal system with a focus on South Australia's planning legislation. Students will gain an understanding of the role of the public sector in policy- and decision-making processes and ethical issues in contemporary planning practice including the role of the planner acting as expert witness in development assessment.
