Industry Experience

Course aim

To recognise and assess student engagement and industrial experience through the STEM Professional Practice Program required for future roles as qualified Construction Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors and more.

Course content

This course requires students to complete the UniSA STEM Professional Practice Program (PPP) and accrue at least 450 hours (60 days FTE) of discipline and/or industry related skills and competencies, with at least half of these hours spent in industry on a placement prior to graduation. These hours can be gained through a range of professional engagement activities such as placements, internships, guest lectures, industry panels, site visits, networking and industry events.

Upon completion of the PPP, students will be invited to enrol in this course and complete the required assessment. The student will not be eligible to graduate until they have received a non graded pass (NGP) for this course.

Students are expected to demonstrate that:

1. They were supervised and nurtured by industry professionals (or mentors);
2. They performed a range of tasks and processes to acquire practical skills;
3. They were given an improved educational experience in order to develop greater connections with the
   world of work in areas such as construction management, quantity surveying and building surveying; and
4. They were given an opportunity to understand themselves in relation to their career development, their academic studies and transition to employment.
