To develop a critical understanding of the nature, content, practices and theories of the English curriculum and English teaching in senior schools.
Pre-service teachers will learn about the content of the Australian Curriculum for English at secondary level and the content and requirements of SACE English courses. They will become acquainted with the theories, principles, methods and pedagogical approaches for integrating reading, writing, speaking and listening throughout the secondary English curriculum. Pre-service teachers will engage and become familiar with a wide range of text types, genres and literature appropriate for the study of English at secondary level. They will focus and reflect on key aspects of their professional practice as secondary English teachers. Pre-service teachers will bring together theory and practice to design a curriculum program and consider the role of assessment.
