To engage students with contemporary ‘theologies of Church’ and to apply these theologies in Catholic educational settings, with a particular focus on Catholic identity, mission and renewal.
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the Catholic Church and Catholic Schools/Education, with a focus on identity, mission and renewal. Key topics will include: church beginnings and New Testament churches, The Catholic Church in history, The Church of Vatican II and post-Vatican II, the contemporary Church (applying Evangelii Gaudium and Laudato si), sacraments and sacramentality, images of Church, identity and mission of the Church, challenges in Church, The Catholic Church and Catholic School, renewal movements in Church and education, the vocation and role of the Catholic educator.
