Course aim

To provide students with an opportunity to explore and apply their disciplinary knowledge and skills in a different setting – usually an off-shore location, but Australian-based, non-Adelaide locations may be utilised where deemed relevant. Through a sequence of formal and informal activities co-designed with participating students, independent exploration and guided reflection, students will acquire cultural knowledge and expertise, will develop a greater awareness of their own and other’s world-views, and will hone reflexive capacities relevant to their disciplines – fundamentally important skills for today’s diverse and increasingly globalised labour markets.

Course content

Students will participate in a sequence of pre-departure and post-trip seminars. Students will be immersed within settings for a period of 2-3 weeks. The content of this course will be delivered in both on-shore and off-shore sessions. The nature of the content will vary according to the disciplinary mix of participating students and the specific characteristics of the location.

All tours, regardless of location, will include reference to the pedagogical foundations of study tours and to the social, cultural, historical, political, economic and other relevant characteristics of the location visited.
