Music Production

Course aim

Students develop knowledge of contemporary music industry processes and outcomes through recording and live performance.

Course content

The course will further student knowledge of how contemporary popular music is created, rehearsed, recorded and performed. Popular music genres such as rock, pop, rhythm and blues (R&B), funk and soul are explored. Students specialise within the areas of sound production, live performance and/or event management. Students develop skills in composition, song structure and delivery, encompassing professional rehearsal processes. Students record new work or cover versions followed by a live performance in a recognised city venue. The course includes an overview of current marketing and business techniques used in the contemporary music industry. The knowledge and practical skills gained in this course aim to inform and enhance best creative and professional practise based on contemporary industry models and requirements.

Completion of any first year course from the Performing Arts major/sub-major within the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Creative Industries, or by approval from the Program Director.
