Course aim

To extend students’ knowledge and skills through individual research addressing an area of relevance to the field of Urban and Regional Planning.

Course content

Students will complete an individual research project addressing an area of relevance to the field of Urban and Regional Planning. The research project will be guided by a structured approach including: detailed context discussion of the chosen topic area and a research problem statement; a critical literature review that identifies a significant research question/aim and objectives, and sets out a conceptual framework to guide the analysis; ethical considerations and ethics approvals; an understanding of the research design and different research methods that can be applied to answer the research question and the selection and appropriate justification of the chosen methodology; detailed discussion of the methodology applied in the research; analysis of primary and/secondary sourced research findings; discussion of the research results; recommendations for improved planning solutions and policies; and conclusions regarding the key thesis findings and contribution.
