For students to refine and apply their professional knowledge, skills and understandings in becoming a reflexive practitioner who regularly undertakes research on their own teaching and student learning, to inform and develop their practice.
Pre-service Teachers (PSTs) will develop increased autonomy and responsibility for their own learning outcomes and those of their students. PSTs will consider the connections between theory and practice and how this relates to the profession of teaching. PSTs will undertake a personal inquiry project based on understandings gained about themselves through critical reflection of their development against the AITSL National Professional Standards for Teachers. PSTs will apply their understandings with an emphasis on life-long learning within the profession. PSTs will have opportunities to develop their practice to enhance learner engagement and development.
PSTs will continue their development of a philosophy of teaching by drawing on university experiences and theoretical knowledge and linking this to practical application within school-based settings. PSTs will prioritise effective professional relationships between PSTs and all members of the school community to build this philosophy by incorporating a diverse range of perspectives on and understandings about teaching and learning.
PSTs will develop their skills and understandings of curriculum planning, implementation and assessment to move towards their career entry. PSTs will develop the skills, knowledge and capacity to design, implement, assess and report on student learning which is fundamental to their success within collaborative teaching teams. Students will do this effectively within the contextual, legal, professional and ethical bounds of contemporary teaching.
