Course aim

To develop a deep, conceptual and foundational content knowledge in historical studies through exploring the content and skills of the Australian Curriculum: History. Students will develop the capacity to think historically through historical concepts and key content areas that underpin the history curriculum. Inquiry and research skills will also be honed to support the teaching of engaging, critical and creative history in the primary school setting.

Course content

Students will study units of work that will provide deep content knowledge in conceptual thinking in history. They will explore major periods of history that are pertinent to teaching children from Reception to Year 7 while using primary resources to develop historical stories. Students will also explore the use of inquiry and research skills in the study of history and interpret the achievement standards and quality task design.
