Course aim

To develop a deep, conceptual and foundational content knowledge in geographical studies through exploring the content and skills of the Australian Curriculum: Geography. To develop the capacity to think geographically through geographical concepts and key content areas that underpin the geography curriculum. Inquiry and research skills will also be honed to support the teaching of engaging, critical and creative geography in the primary school setting.

Course content

Students will study units of work that will provide deep understanding of the child as a geographer through geographical thinking. They will also explore the major content areas and geographical processes pertinent to teaching children from birth to Year 7. To do this students will develop spatial and practical mapping skills, conduct fieldwork using inquiry methodology and interpret the achievement standards and quality task design.
