Course aim

To enable students to develop an understanding of the goals, purposes and methods of teaching mathematics in the primary years of schooling and to prepare them to plan, resource and teach well sequenced mathematics learning experiences.

Course content

Students will understand the nature of specialised content knowledge for teaching mathematics, impact of learning theories on the teaching of mathematics, and teaching methodologies appropriate for primary mathematics. Students will engage in planning for the teaching and learning of mathematics to make explicit the learning intention and success criteria of a learning experience.
