Course aim

To provide students with an opportunity to explore and apply their disciplinary knowledge, skills and capacity in a different regional, national or international context. This can be achieved in person, virtually or in combination to extend students' historical, cultural knowledge as well as technical skills, resilience and professional employability. Students will be engaged in a sequence of activities, co-designed in part, around independent exploration and guided reflection. Students will have the opportunity to enhance awareness, knowledge and expertise, further adapting and developing their reflective ability to consider own and other’s world-views. This course provides an opportunity to hone reflexive capacities relevant to their career aspirations and develop an appreciation of the intersection between disciplines to facilitate their ability to engage in dynamic local and globalised labour markets.

Course content

Students will participate in a sequence of pre-departure learning, programmed study tour and post-trip activities. Students will be immersed within study tour settings for a period (in the main) of between 10 - 25 days. The content of this course will be delivered in both on-shore and off-shore sessions, with face to face and virtual being used. The nature of the content will vary according to the disciplinary mix of participating students and the specific characteristics of the tour location. All tours, regardless of location, will include reference to the pedagogical foundations of study tours, the UniSA policies and guidelines linked to student mobility as well as other relevant mobility frameworks. At different stages during the course, students will engage with some of the social, cultural, historical, political, economic, environmental and other relevant challenges of the location visited. Students will be involved in activities of reciprocal benefits with host organisations and contexts. Students will be required to engage in pre-departure activities that include negotiating with host organisations to prepare what is needed.

NOTE: Additional fees apply for the study tour component of this course
