To examine contemporary issues related to the intersection between religious perspectives within Islam, diverse perspectives held by Muslim peoples, and secular schooling environments, including the impact this may have on classrooms and school communities. To develop cultural and religious capabilities for working effectively within Islamic school communities and responsive pedagogy for the strengths and needs of Muslim students.
Students will develop understandings about the beliefs, values, traditions and worldview of Muslim students and how these relate to teaching and learning in contemporary Australian classrooms. Students will explore teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of Muslim students. Students will build cultural and religious capabilities in order to work effectively within Islamic school communities. Students will develop understandings about contemporary issues, misconceptions and diverse and/or divergent opinions about Islam and Muslims that may impact on students, teachers and parents. Students will draw on the this knowledge to inform strength based approaches and practical strategies for addressing contemporary and and/or controversial issues in relation to Islamic thought, contemporary contexts and the strengths and needs of Muslim students in diverse and inclusive classroom contexts.
