Course aim

To develop students' understanding of theories of learning and teaching mathematics and their own thinking and reasoning skills. To explore current research and issues in mathematics education which impact on learners’ understanding, problem solving and reasoning abilities.

Course content

Students will further develop their understanding of the big ideas in number, space, measurement, chance and data, patterns and relationships, thinking, reasoning and communicating mathematically. Students will examine current research in mathematics education and how it informs their practice. Students will develop their professional numeracy, including interpretation and use of learner data for planning learning experiences that cater for individual needs. Students will apply the Australian Curriculum Mathematics proficiency strands in planning and teaching.
