Course aim

To introduce networking concepts and technologies with the aim of designing and implementing networks for small to medium businesses.

Course content

In this course students will gain advanced skills and knowledge in the following: OSI & TCP/IP networking models and network technologies including: Physical layer standards, network media and network devices, data link layer, media access control, and Ethernet, Virtual LANs (VLANs), network layer protocols and basic concepts of routing, IP addressing and subnetting IP networks, IPv6, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) routing protocol, transport layer protocols, application layer protocols and services, wireless technologies; an overview of network operating systems, and network management; configuration of network devices (routers and switches).
