Course Alert: This course is no longer available for enrolment
This course aims to provide students with an opportunity to undertake a research problem or advanced study in one of the following areas of specialisation: applied mathematics, pure mathematics, statistics, or optimisation under the supervision of a mathematician or statistician. The course also aims to prepare the student who has successfully completed this and the Honours Mathematics and Statistics Project 2 course, for research studies in an area of mathematics or statistics.
Depending on the project scope and availability of the supervisor, a project may be undertaken entirely within this course or continue to be pursued in the second semester course Honours Mathematics and Statistics Project 2. A project can form part of a larger research project currently being investigated by the supervisor, or be a self-contained, research problem, or a literature review of a particular research topic, in the latter case with the intention of the student developing an understanding of a complete program of research.
