To critically review the tools and techniques of learning analytics, and design a learning analytics approach for an educational setting.
Students will develop a critical understanding of the purpose and application of a range of learning analytics concepts, tools and techniques, including: predictive analytics and data dashboards, including UniSA’s data dashboard; social network analysis; assessment analytics; text analysis, including natural language processing; temporal and sequential data capture and use, e.g. process mining; classroom data capture techniques, e.g. sociometric badges and web-based quizzes; analytics for course and teacher evaluation.
Students will be develop an appreciation of the ethical dimensions of learning analytics.
Students will be able to synthesise their knowledge of learning analytics to address learning process issues such as self-regulated learning.
Students will develop practical skills in learning analytics tool use.
Students will understand, evaluate, and apply learning analytics approaches in relation to learning design principles, particularly backward design.
