Introduction to Aviation Safety

Course aim

To provide students with a broad understanding of the application of safety processes and how they are applied within the aviation industry.

Course content

 Introduction to the four components of ICAO Safety Management System (SMS) framework: safety policy and objectives, safety risk management, safety assurance, safety promotion; processes and procedures to achieve high levels of safety standards in aviation organisations; examining elements of hazard identification processes; risk assessment; risk mitigation; safety performance; and change management. Emphasis is made on safety data collection and its use to transition from a reactive to a responsive safety program.
