Course aim

To provide advanced knowledge of the biochemical science of nutrients relevant to human health and disease.

Course content

Metabolic pathways in cardiometabolic, hepatic, renal, haematological, immunological, bone and nervous tissue and transport mechanisms in the maintenance of whole-body homeostasis. Metabolic changes occurring in disease states. Biochemical and/or physiological functions of biomolecules to mitigate the onset of disease and the mechanisms of action. The interaction between nutrients and drugs and implications on homeostasis and pathology. Comparative studies on the effectiveness of biomolecules according to changes in disease biomarker(s). Evidence for general and high-level health/therapeutic claims of nutrients.
