School of Natural and Built Environments
To develop the skills necessary to plan a project in their discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments and to plan a research project.
This course is the first of two courses (NBE Master’s Thesis Part A and NBE Master’s Thesis Part B) that culminates in a 9,000 word research Thesis (or equivalent body of work) that demonstrates a high level of synthesis of concepts and prepares the student for lifelong learning in pursuit of personal development and excellence in research and professional practice.
Students will fine tune the research proposal prepared in the pre-requisite ENGG 4005 course to investigate and report on a research topic in their discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments. Students who have not completed their proposal in the pre-requisite ENGG 4005 course will need to develop their proposal within this course.
Students will then undertake a comprehensive literature review in accordance with their research proposal and develop their research tools/instruments.
Students whose projects contain empirical research involving humans/animals or research including execution risks will apply for human/animal research ethics approval and/or conduct a risk assessment, respectively, as a pre-requisite for subsequently conducting the research in NBE Master’s Thesis Part B.
