Masters Thesis Part A

Course aim

To develop the skills necessary to plan a project on a relevant topic and to plan a research project.

Course content

This is the first of two courses that culminate in a 9,000 word research thesis (or equivalent body of work) that demonstrates a high level of synthesis of concepts and prepares students for lifelong learning in pursuit of personal development and excellence in research and professional practice.

Students will fine tune the research proposal prepared in the prerequisite research methods course to investigate and report on a research topic relevant to their program.

Students who have not completed their proposal in the prerequisite research methods course will need to develop their proposal within this course. Students will then undertake a comprehensive literature review in accordance with their research proposal and develop their research tools/instruments.

Students whose projects contain empirical research involving humans/animals, or research including execution risks, will ensure that all human/animal research ethics issues are cleared and any risk assessments are conducted before undertaking the research in the subsequent course.

An equivalent research methods course to Masters Research Theory and Practice will be considered as a prerequisite for students unable to complete Masters Research Theory and Practice prior to commencing the research project (for example, students entering a program with advanced standing).
