The aim of this course is to provide opportunities for students to explore and develop sociological perspectives and practices concerning health, physical activity and sport.
Sociological aspects of health, physical activity and sport. Paradigms of knowledge from sociological perspectives; explorations of popular misunderstandings concerning health, inactivity, exercise addiction, eating disorders, body image, physical activity and the environment, deviant behaviours and abuse within physical activity and sport; application of qualitative research methods to health and/or physical activity issues experienced by specific populations, including (but not confined to) women, men, children, older Australians, migrants/refugees, workers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders; sociological analysis and reflections of health professions in Australian society.
