Course aim

To develop an understanding of the principles of drug action and its application to the management of selected disorders.

Course content

An introduction to the principles of pharmacology including: types of drug molecules, receptors, agonists and antagonists and mechanisms of toxicity.

An of the most important medicines used in the management of: hypertension, dyslipidaemia, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, venous thromboembolism, diabetes, pain and inflammation, immunosuppression, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoporosis, asthma, COPD, depression, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, urinary incontinence, common infectious diseases and cancer.
