Course aim

To provide students with a solid foundation in common statistical methods required for population health research practice, and exposure to and use of a statistical software package.

Course content

Understanding different types of data; common probability distributions and their applications; hypothesis testing; exploratory data analysis (graphs, descriptive statistics); statistical tests for continuous data (correlation, t-tests, analysis of variance) and categorical data (chi-square tests); non-parametric tests; regression analyses (linear regression, logistic regression, Poisson regression); confounding; time to event data (survival curves, Cox regression).
