The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics to inform advanced assessment and prescribing practice.
Pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, prescription and non-prescription medicines, implications of generic and brand names when prescribing medications. Teratogenesis, adverse medicine reactions, interactions, precautions, contraindications related to medicines in midwifery practice. Quality use of medicines and the role of the midwife, legal and ethical considerations relating to prescribing of medicines including relevant legislation, guidelines including relevant legislation, standards, codes and guidelines.
