Course aim

To further develop students' knowledge of the basic structure and services in large scale commercial buildings and to build students' understanding of the requirements of workplace design.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge in the quality of commercial interior environments and their relationship to building services including: artificial lighting, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic services, fire detection and suppression, vertical transportation; interior elements and construction methods applicable to commercial tenancy fitout including floor, ceiling and partition systems; re-use and demountability. Students will develop their skills in preparation of technical drawings, schedules and specifications; legislation covering the design and construction of interior fitout. Students will be introduced to the Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards; preparing budgets and opinions of probable cost.
