To provide pharmacists with advanced knowledge and skills in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with diabetes mellitus.
This course addresses the pathophysiological basis of glucose metabolism; aetiology, diagnosis and management (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes; monitoring and interpretation of clinical and laboratory tests; medication-related problems; management and prevention of co-morbidities. It will also address the role of the pharmacist in the diabetes health care team, community services available, and continuity of care between primary and tertiary settings.
