To edify students with the important concepts of the economics of money, banking and financial markets. To analyse and evaluate, from an economic point of view, the behaviours of agents in banking and financial markets, and the policy strategies of governments and central banks as they affect global financial markets.
This course will be structured around four main topic areas. The first is an overview of financial markets and the behaviour of interest rates. The second is an analysis of banking and financial institutions paying particular attention to regulation and financial crises. The third is the mechanics of central banking and the conduct of monetary policy. The fourth is an examination of monetary theory and macroeconomic policy.
