Course aim

To introduce students to written and geometric communications used in building design, construction, and use.

Course content

Introduction to personal, project and practice communication. The project timeline. Classification. Modelling in 3D compared with drawing in 2D. Design and working drawings and models. Databases. Information technology. Graphical projections. Detailing domestic building elements and components including foundations, footings, floors, walls, roofs and finishing trades. Preparation and use of the lifetime specification. Using engineering and surveying documentation. Planning and management of documentation. Contracts. The central role of building information modelling. Co-ordination, integration, collaboration.
