To apply surveying knowledge and experience to a significant surveying or spatial science problem.
Students may elect to undertake either a Cadastral Surveying Project or a Spatial Science Project which is other than cadastral in nature.
Students undertaking the Cadastral Surveying option will undertake a significant investigation project in an urban context. The project will be practically oriented and involve the determination of road alignments and the redefinition of selected allotment boundaries. The project will be supervised by a staff member of the University and a master surveyor from the profession. The results of the project will be presented to the University and the Surveyors Board of SA.
Students undertaking the Spatial Science option will undertake a major investigation project in any area of spatial science. The project will be practically oriented, aimed at solving a problem and will be reported by way of a major report / minor thesis and a presentation to the University, the Surveyors Board of SA and spatial profession. Each student will be allocated a supervisor from the University and the project will continue through the course Surveying Project 2.
