Course aim

An overview of the history, philosophy, purpose, function, and processes relevant to libraries, archives, galleries, museums and records management and their role in society.

Course content

Provides an overview of the theory, relationships between organisational requirements of different types of information sources, information users, technologies and society.  Insight into the relevant legal, ethical and current professional issues in the sector including life cycle of collections, intellectual property, copyright, access to information (FOI), confidentiality and privacy, intellectual freedom and censorship, and advocacy.
