Course aim

This course will give students a sound understanding of the athletic journey from grassroots participation through to elite competition focusing on the managerial requirements that facilitate this process.

Course content

Students will examine a variety of applied approaches to recruiting and retaining sport participants. They will then examine the high performance pathway, gaining insight into operational requirements of talent identification and high performance competition whilst gaining appreciation of the unique pressures and commitments required of the developing elite athlete. The course concludes with a focus on elite sport, specifically examining competition requirements of the elite athlete, the role of the player manager and life-after-sport for the elite athlete.
