To introduce students to knowledge of and essential skills in news journalism.
Students will be introduced to foundational news principles, including story selection, original research, interviewing, and news writing structures. They will undertake authentic news reporting assignments that begin the process of preparing them to be well-rounded journalists, with a good understanding of the pressures they face when producing stories to deadline. Students will understand how journalism interacts with key sources of information, such as public relations, governments and communities.
