To further develop students’ ability to write for radio news and longer format radio stories.
Students will build on existing knowledge of broadcast writing and producing. Students will develop skills to edit news material using industry-standard software, compile new reports on location, apply industry standards to news writing, voice reporting, news production and news reading as well as knowledge of sourcing and interviewing techniques. They will identify and analyse key ethical and legal obligations associated with broadcast reporting.
Students will analyse the demands of radio journalism in an industry standard, state of the art radio studio and the processes inherent in the preparation and presentation of radio stories (both short and long format) with a live audience. Students will experience the practical constraints of radio journalism and will learn to work to daily deadline pressures in a team.
