Course aim

To enhance student's spoken and written language proficiency in their chosen language at an advanced level and enable them to engage critically with research into key areas of their language specialisation in preparation for their future professional lives as globally capable citizens.

Course content

This is a capstone course for the Languages majors (English as an Additional Language, French, Italian and Japanese) and is designed to enable students at an advanced level to consolidate and examine critically three key areas of expertise in the students’ language specialisation. Students will enhance their linguistic skills in the target language and develop intercultural autonomy in contexts of particular relevance to their future professional lives.  They will develop their translation expertise between their first language and their target language by working on a portfolio and by focussing on the complex diversity among languages in the contemporary world. Students will also research and critically examine representations of cultures and identities through a study of key texts (historical, social, linguistic, literary and media).
