School of Creative Industries
To familiarise students with professional practice and industry standards in visual effects.
Visual Effects familiarises students with the VFX industry and production pipeline, and provides the theory, skills and techniques to produce industry-standard visual effects-based film sequences. During the lecture series, students will develop an understanding of key visual effects techniques and practices. Students will also engage with local industry leaders to further their understanding of professional practice in the visual effects industry. During the practical series, students will develop advanced skills in Nuke, 3D Equaliser and Houdini, including rotoscoping, keying, compositing, camera tracking, particle systems, explosions, fluid dynamics and physics-based dynamics. The assessment tasks will provide students with the opportunity to work both individually and in small teams; and produce a personalised showreel of industry-standard work.
