To acquaint students with genre as a popular screen media format and as a critical tool in screen studies.
This intermediate-level course will explore the evolution and persistence of screen genres across film, television and digital culture. Students will examine a selection of different genres from the perspective of film/media history, formal aesthetics, issues of nationality, industry and economics, authorship and audience reception, as well as the technological impact that the digital and cross-media conglomeration have had on screen genres today.

Completion of any four first year courses from either the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communication and Media, Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing, Bachelor of Media Arts or by approval from the Program Director.
