Course aim

To acquaint students with genre as a popular screen media format and as a critical tool in screen studies.

Course content

This intermediate-level course will explore the evolution and persistence of screen genres across film, television and digital culture. Students will examine a selection of different genres from the perspective of film/media history, formal aesthetics, issues of nationality, industry and economics, authorship and audience reception, as well as the technological impact that the digital and cross-media conglomeration have had on screen genres today.
