To extend students' knowledge gained from previous courses by further exploring stage music genres, focusing on the musical, its main repertory, structural characteristics and contemporary performance practice.
The course explores and analyses the structural and performance practice aspects of the genre of musical theatre focusing on the musical’s historical development, main repertoire, new trends and performance context in Australia and on the international stage. Students study the structure of seminal works, analyse noted performances and explore the notion of convergence between staged musicals and film musicals.
